ASH FORUM OF CIVIL SOCIETY

Forum of Civil Society at the Albert-Schweitzer-House (ASH Forum)

The ASH Forum of Civil Society is a PLATFORM FOR SOCIAL DIALOGUE AND EDUCATION founded by Protestant institutions in Vienna, Austria.

As an educational institution, we take up topics from civil society and address them through educational events in a variety of formats. We see ourselves as an open space for encounter, where dialogue and exchange on civil society issues can take place on an equal footing.

We are committed to a discrimination-sensitive approach; human diversity and inclusion are a natural and integral part of both our team and our work. Building on the Albert Schweitzer Haus, the Forum aims to expand its reach and create space for topics and people in other local neighbourhoods, helping to amplify their voices. The ASH Forum is supported by individuals with diverse perspectives, opinions, and lived experiences, all of which contribute to and shape our work.

what

we do

Thinking about the future!

The future is not something that simply happens; it is in all our hands. We support forward-looking initiatives and provide a space to reflect on pressing political, social, and ethical questions.

Shaping society through education.

At the ASH Forum, paths that often run parallel to one another cross, creating opportunities for encounters on an intellectual, emotional, or spiritual level — and, of course, through creativity and play!

Creating spaces for encounter!

Education happens through interaction with others. By engaging with different perspectives, we learn to question and contextualise our own positions and explore new intellectual territory. In this way, we educate one another while simultaneously building a community.

what we

stand for

…we demand and promote justice by advancing and fostering public and political discourse.

…we value pluralism as a foundation of an inclusive society and are open to dialogue and collaboration with everyone.

…we work with creative freedom and responsibility to contribute to the formation of public opinion.

Our

topics

Violence Prevention and Ethics in Criminal Justice

Projects and activities are developed specifically developed for the target groups of the Platform Ethics in Criminal Justice and the Violence Prevention Working Group in Alsergrund. We see these two areas as closely interconnected and therefore facilitate opportunities for exchange between people who approach these issues from different perspectives.

Educational Spaces

Education is a key focus of the ASH Forum on two levels. On the one hand, we are an institution for general adult education; on the other, we make education itself a subject of discussion and reflection.

Culture of remembrance

How is history remembered — and who decides? In the Remembrance Culture Education Department and the Memory Lab evangelisches:erinnern, we critically examine the culture of remembrance within Austrian Protestantism and Austrian society, while exploring questions of identity, power, and social responsibility.

Democracy & Media

Our everyday lives are shaped by political decisions and media coverage. These two areas are closely interconnected. As a forum for civil society, both provide us with an opportunity to explore the issues and people that shape our society, and to consider how society can be changed.
